os-test talk @ FOSDEM (recording)

Jonas 'Sortie' Termansen on 2026-02-04

I was invited to speak about os-test at the FOSDEM conference in Brussels on the /dev/random track. The presentation went really well, and I even presented it natively on Sortix using a slideshow program that I wrote the night before! It was really professionally productive to informally meet up with people, especially running into people from the Open Group and Apple, and of course with catching up the kind people from NLnet that funds the os-test project.

The talk was livestreamed internationally and FOSDEM has just published the recording if you missed it:

  • os-test: Measuring POSIX compliance on every single OS (FOSDEM talk page)
  • os-test-fosdem-2026.pdf (slides)
  • Video recording (AV1/WebM; preferred) - 55.3 MB
  • Video recording (MP4; for legacy systems) - 356.4 MB

I made a lot of new interesting connections and ideas that I want to follow up on soon. I also very much enjoyed socially hanging out with developers from Managarm, and a huge shout-out too to the people from Haiku and Redox. Lots of exciting new os-test tests are coming up soon, with the basic suite now halfway done!
