os-test talk @ FOSDEM (recording)

Jonas 'Sortie' Termansen 2026-02-04

I was invited to speak about os-test at the FOSDEM conference in Brussels on the /dev/random track. The presentation went really well, and I even presented it natively on Sortix using a slideshow program that I wrote the night before! It was really professionally productive to informally meet up with people, especially running into people from the Open Group and Apple, and of course with catching up the kind people from NLnet that funds the os-test project.

POSIX 2024 Changes

Jonas 'Sortie' Termansen on 2024-06-28

POSIX.1-2024 has just been released with a lot of exciting and interesting improvements and removals compared to POSIX-1.2008. The html version of the standard has not been uploaded yet as of this writing. The official list of new functions in the standard itself is very incomplete, so I combed through the CHANGE HISTORY sections in the official pdf, and I present you with the most accurate list of the changes so far.

Sortix 1.0 Feedback

Jonas 'Sortie' Termansen on 2016-04-14

I had a lovely glass of port wine with my close family as the scp(1) program uploaded everything to sortix.org. I hoped I hadn't screwed up the release process somehow and uploaded defective cdrom images. Everything seemed to work. It was time to let everyone know about the release.

Sortix 1.0 was released a bit over two weeks ago and it was well received. It had a bit of news coverage and a surprising amount of coverage from non-English communities. The biggest lesson was that Twitter is a surprisingly good platform to promote Sortix on. I think there's a good deal of people that could be interested in projects like Sortix, but the question is how to reach this audience. How was it received?
